AAS Exhibition: Greek/Roman Mythology

Medusa: Foul and Beautiful

I put my heart and soul into the research and design work for this garment. I really wanted to create a garment of a mythological figure that was empowering, which is what led to me to choose Medusa. I wanted this garment to show her true beauty through my haute couture techniques. The snake print fabric was painted entirely by hand, the green tulle overlay was hand dyed, as well has the snake wrapped belt hand painted. My favorite element that really pulls the look together is the neck piece, this is meant to represent the downfall of medusa, the beads hanging are meant to represent the blood running down her neck. This piece was entired painted, strung and beaded by hand.
